The name Penny Black Vineyards began with something small and meaningful. Years ago, our founder and his father in law planted a modest strip of grapevines at their home in Northern California. They named it Penny Black Vineyards, inspired by the Penny Black, the world’s first postage stamp, a symbol of beginnings, connection, and sending something meaningful out into the world.
What started as a personal passion project rooted in family and curiosity planted the seed for something greater.
Today, Penny Black Vineyards has grown into a premier vineyard in Southern Oregon. While much has changed in scale, the heart of Penny Black remains the same. There is a deep commitment to thoughtful farming, exceptional fruit, and honoring the spirit of its origins. Each vintage reflects not only the character of the land, but also the story of where it all began. A small vineyard, a shared vision, and the belief that great things often start with the simplest ideas.
